The Hatune Foundation builds wells and hospitals to ease the need
On April 18, Sister Hatune and 2 other members of our association, made a trip to Ethiopia. By the end of last year, I had laid the foundation for our projects in Ethiopia and made a Christmas present for the poorest of the poor. The aim of the Hatune Foundation is to help the poorest of the poor and so we had 9000 Euros in donations and in 8 large suitcases shoes, clothes, and medicine, as well as 1500 glasses in the luggage.
On the second day in Addis Ababa we visited the museum and had an appointment with the patriarch. He inquired about the projects of our Christmas trip and was very interested in our work. It is important to have the support of the patriarch and the government, so that we can put our projects to good use.
Therefore, Addis Ababa is also going to be the centre of our activities. 19 groups with volunteers are around and are currently planning various types of assistance. So we want to use the tried and tested model from India and build sewing schools, computer schools, we want to bring drilling machines for the construction of wells to Ethiopia.
First we will tackle the well projects, 2500 Euro costs the construction of a well, the machines come from Germany and must be transported here.
With our medical project, we want to make eye operations possible, and our eyeglasses were handed over to our voluntary ophthalmologists. These two projects have a clear priority, water and medicine are most needed.
For our educational project we want to build 18 training seminars, which are paid by the Foundation. The students live in absolute poverty and have just the essentials to eat. In Ethiopia, 90 million people are living, 80 million in huts or provisional huts without walls without running water. That is why the Hatune Foundation will also be involved in house construction.
The Hatune Foundation maintains good contacts with the patriarch and the bishops and is seeking support from the President. This is important because for example the import of machines for well construction, requires the support and approval of the state and the church. In addition, the Foundation will be in contact with the new German ambassador, who will soon be coming from Germany.
The Hatune Foundation believes that the poorest of the poor can be helped most effectively on the ground. If the money spent in Europe for refugees were spent on the ground, more people could be effectively protected from hunger and distress.
Still, Ethiopia is largely Christian, but Saudi Arabia financed the construction of 86 mosques in Addis Ababa within six months and the mayor agreed to that. The Foundation wants to teach young Christians to buy and cultivate land in order to provide the Christians with better living conditions.
