UN report: 360,000 abused Yezidis in need of urgent mental care
The UN report about the destiny of the Yazidis and ISIS´ brutality, published on 16 August 2016, is really scaring.
The report, compiled by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), contains accounts of those who were among the 308,315, mostly Yezidis, who fled the Sinjar District in 2014. An estimated 360,000 Yezidi remain displaced, with a serious lack of badly needed psychological care.
The 1,200 Yazidis who were given a place to stay in Germany are only a drop in the ocean. It is sad to realize, that no other country in the world up to now has made any efforts to help the persecuted. It seems like most Western countries are more keen on helping the persecutors.
The report is unusually detailed with more witness explanations than normal, however it does not hit the nail on the head, when it comes to the clarification of why ISIS does what they are doing. Quotes from the ISIS doctrine are used in the report to explain why more than 3,500 Yazidi girls and women were abducted and treated like sex slaves, concubines and worse, and 2,800 men were taken as slaves and forced to fight and kill for ISIS.
What the report doesn’t mention
The report does not mention Islam. The authors use the term “ISIS doctrine” to explain the cruelty carried out by ISIS members although the behavior and the content of the so called doctrine are taken right out of the Koran, Islam’s most holy book! ISIS are Sunni Muslims and therefore obliged to obey and live after the canonic texts approved by Sunni scholars.
Legalized by the Koran and Hadith
According to ISIL’s doctrine, sexual slavery is acceptable when referring to female captives. “ISIS refers to them as ‘slaves’ or ‘spoils of war’ (war booty) in several public statements,” the report stated.
According to an ISIS pamphlet in October 2014, “it is permissible to have sexual intercourse with a girl who has not reached puberty, and… the ‘slave’ is considered as merely a property of the owner that, after his death, could be distributed as part of his estate.”
Both sentences are taken out of the Koran and the Hadith as it is. No wonder that the scholars at Al-Azhar did not find ISIS ‘unislamic’.

Earlier we wrote an article about the German initiative concerning the Yazidis:
In Warburg, the Hatune Foundation hosts more Yazidi families on our premises. We appeal for help for those still living under miserable conditions in Iraq. While the UNHCR seems to be unable to help those stuck outside the camps, we, together with other smaller NGO’s, are trying to aid them in their spiritual and bodily necessities. Regardless of our best wishes, we are only able to help to the extent of our funds.
