A big problem is illiteracy, in one village for example, there was only a 10-year-old girl who could read. Pregnant women who have difficulties with confinement die because of lack of medical assistance. Midwives and nurses only come where there are medical facilities.
We decided to help the poorest and most vulnerable with food, water and medical help. But then also giving aid, helping them to help themselves by cultivating vegetables and cereals in the long term. It occurred to us that people had no idea what to do with the fertile ground.
This year again, Sister Hatune wants to go to the Middle East to spend Christmas with the refugees. Hundreds of thousands of people in the war zones of Iraq and Syria, as well as in the surrounding countries, are still living in great misery. When she says celebrating Christmas, it is not about bringing toys and chocolate to the people. It’s not a symbolic gesture, it is about saving lives.
In August, we intend to start a brand-new Web-TV news channel: “New Times Today”, NTT. In the Foundation, we often meet a reality that does not fit into the picture communicated by the general media channels. Our angel will be: “The world, seen from a Christian view, with focus on persecution of minorities”.
In April of this year, Sister Hatune travelled to Guatemala, following an invitation by Bishop Jacob Eduardo, Archbishop for Central America. The people in Guatemala, that she met there, are in real need for help, both spiritually as well as economically. Hatune is very happy to say, that the groundworks for the first community centers have been laid.
